Building a business in Fiji is an incredible journey, but let’s be honest, it can also be pretty lonely at times. When you’re in the thick of daily operations, managing teams, and making high-stakes decisions, it’s rare to find a moment to just sit back, breathe, and talk openly with people who actually get it.
That’s exactly why we created the Founders Table, and why our very first gathering felt so special.
We brought together a group of founders and business owners from across our local community. Looking around the room, we had people from tourism, healthcare, retail, hospitality, education, technology, and professional services. On paper, our daily work looks completely different. But once the food was served and the conversations started flowing, it became clear just how much we all have in common.
Moving Beyond Business Cards
We intentionally designed the night to skip the formal elevator pitches and rigid networking routines. Instead, we wanted real, unscripted conversations about what it actually takes to build something of your own in Fiji today.
A few things really stood out from our time together:
- Shared Realities: We talked about the big wins, but we also talked about the hurdles, the late nights, managing growth, navigating local market shifts, and keeping teams motivated.
- Fresh Perspectives: It was refreshing to hear how a founder in retail tackles a problem that a tech or tourism owner is also facing. Crossing industry lines brought so many simple, practical insights to light.
- Genuine Community: The best part of the evening wasn’t swapping contact info; it was watching real, supportive relationships form naturally over shared experiences.
This Is Just the Beginning
To every single founder who joined us, took a seat at the table, and shared their story so openly—vinaka vakalevu. You brought the warmth, honesty, and energy that made the night what it was.
This first Founders Table reminded us of why we built the MyDesk Launchpad Community in the first place: to create an open, encouraging ecosystem where Fiji’s entrepreneurs can gather, learn from each other, and grow together without feeling like they have to figure it all out alone.
